Train trouble guide
If you are carrying luggage, holding a child’s hand or trying to catch a connection, German station words can feel stressful. This guide explains common train disruption words in plain English and tells you what to check next.
Your train may leave from a different platform than originally shown. Check the train number, not only the destination, and look at the latest station display before boarding.
The train is cancelled. You may need another train, route or connection. Check DB Navigator, station displays or staff before leaving the station area.
Part of the rail route may be replaced by a bus. Look for signs saying SEV, Ersatzverkehr or Bus. Allow extra time, especially with luggage, children or a tight connection.
Construction works can change routes, platforms, travel times or stopping patterns. Check your route again on the day of travel and leave more transfer time than usual.
Your route may be diverted. The train or local transport may still run, but not exactly as planned. Check whether your stop, platform or connection has changed.
The train is delayed. If you have a connection, check whether the next train is still reachable. Do not rely only on the printed plan or an old screenshot.
What to do first
Germany Travel Checker does not provide live train disruption data. Train routes, platforms and replacement transport can change quickly. Always verify current details with DB Navigator, the local transport operator, station displays or staff.
